Java
JForma is designed to work with Java Standard Edition v1.3 or higher and Enterprise Edition v1.2.2 or higher.
No Java is required in the browser since all browser-based validation is performed using
JavaScript. JForma was written and tested using Sun Microsystems' HotSpot Java virtual machine
on Sun Microsystems' Solaris operating system version 7 for SPARC processors, plus Microsoft
Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows 98 operating systems for Intel processors.
JSP Container
JForma is designed to work with JSP specification version 1.1 or higher. JForma was written and tested using
Tomcat version 3.1 from Apache and JRun version 4 from Macromedia.
Database
JForma was primarily developed and tested using Oracle 8i, Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere version 7 and
PostgreSQL version 6. The production release was also tested with IBM DB2 UDB version 7.2, Sybase Adaptive Server
Enterprise version 12.5 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition. JForma is extensible with respect to
databases and the initialization file allows you to add definitions of new databases
that we have not provided as standard. You may need to cannibalize one of the existing table generator scripts we
supply with the system if it’s a database we have not included. If you wish to use a database that is not in our list of
databases, contact us at SupportDept@sqlt.com if you need
assistance, since we are always looking to extend the range of databases with which JForma can operate.
Memory
It is not possible to give an estimate of the memory requirements of JForma since this is highly dependent
on your particular JSP container, operating system and version of Java plus the number of concurrent users and the
particular data they are working with at any point in time. As a rough guide, each user might typically use anywhere from
two to five megabytes of memory at peak usage. JForma can utilize caching to improve performance and this, too, can
have a significant effect on memory utilization depending upon the settings you choose. Each installation can therefore
vary widely and you should use the facilities of the Forms Administration System to track the performance of your system.
